Course Overview  -  For Week by Week click here

This course introduces students to the use of simple and complex graphic tools used to communicate and understand ideas and concepts found in the areas of manufacturing, architecture, engineering, science and mathematics.  Topics include problem solving strategies, sketching, geometric construction techniques, as well as computer-aided-drafting.  Students will use Auto CAD as the tool to learn about basic drafting principles such as: orthographic projections, isometric and oblique drawings, dimensioning and 3D solid modeling.

Structure

Students are expected to come to class on time and ready to learn.  The class is set up for an office like atmosphere.  Instruction is given in a variety of styles with the majority being demonstration.  Students will listen to the explanation of the unit, watch the demonstration and practice the skill.  Students will then work at their own pace through a series of drawings.  Interim reports will be sent home every 3 weeks as per the schedule on page 1 of the student planners.  I would like to stay in touch with all parents who have e-mail access to give them more frequent progress reports.

Every Friday students will take a short (10-20 question) quiz covering material that will be on the VoCATS (Vocational State Exam) test at the end of the semester. After each unit students will take a test to assess their understanding of the material.  At the end of the first semester students will take a mid-term exam.  The final exam will be a two part exam consisting of the VoCATS test and my exam.  Both will be administered during the final week of class.

Policies

Students are expected to behave in an appropriate manner and show respect to me and the other students.  Behavior disruptive to the learning environment and disrespect will not be tolerated.  Students could be assigned to detention, CARE or suspended.

We have a lab that is set up with some very nice computers and industry standard software.  Therefore, it is very imperative that all students abide by the Acceptable Use Policy in their planner.  Students who have their computer privileges revoke will suffer academically, especially in this class, where the majority of the work is on the computer.
